Christchurch
Famously known as The Garden City, Christchurch is also a city where the past and present combine in architecture. This makes for a city of things always happening, from the trendy dining and drinking Salt District, to the celebration of the arts at the Christchurch Art Gallery, and the theatre at the Isaac Theatre Royal.
This is a city of great strength and character, of community and redevelopment after the devastating 2011 earthquake. There are parks for running and walking (dogs love the open spaces), and much to do away from the city such as visiting Akaroa and Banks Peninsula.

I live in Dunedin, but wish to spend time in other parts of the country to be near family. I have had 7 children, and know about looking after a house and garden, and pets. (Not so different from looking after children). I grew up near the sea in Auckland, and still love swimming, in pool, sea, or fresh water. I like fresh air and the outdoors, biking, camping... My grandparents had a farm in the Waikato when I was growing up, with farm dogs, hens, horses...mixed farming, then later a dairy conversion. I went to stay with them every holiday. I hated being called a townie. I just wanted to be a country person, and be useful on the farm. I learned a lot about animal care from my aunt, who worked the dogs, and always had a cat or two. I am named after her. My grandfather bred racehorses, had some success with them ~ my mother trained them. I have been around animals all my life. I have always had guinea pigs, rabbits, and cats, and a dog once. I have had experience with birds and fish in the course of my work supporting those who own them. I am reliable, experienced and caring, and care about the happiness of animals, and have had the experience to understand and anticipate their needs. I can make sure your house is kept clean and in good condition and can take care of plants, mow lawns if required, care for gardens, and enjoy your pets and keep them happy while you are away. My past experience includes a period of time when I lived in Glenorchy, and helped my sister run her horse trekking company. While not a rider per se myself, I did take the odd trek when riders merely needed a guide up the Dart River. I am married, my husband has his own electrical business. I help with some of the admin. He is not as free as I am to take time off to spend time with our grandchildren in Christchurch. I am privileged to be able to visit my daughter, her husband and my five-year-old and 3-year-old grandsons, not to mention my son and his new wife, and two nieces. I would be very able and happy to take care of your house, pets, and garden while you are away. Everyone works and is busy, so I would be able to spend a good amount of time keeping company with your animals. I have travelled quite a lot, and know how to respect the space I find myself in, and to minimise my impact , to quickly understand how things work in the house I am in. I am keen to learn how you like things. I look forward to being of service to you, and to get to know and care for your pets while you are away.

I am a gypsy by heart - happy to live out of a suitcase and explore my own backyard (since the world is shut off). I am an animal lover so much so I am even vegetarian. I love the outdoors and going for walks/ hikes in my spare time. I started house sitting about 5 years ago for various friends and friends of friends who had heard about me. My presence has made angry cats learn how to love. I have only looked after cats (up to 6 at a time so the amount of animals isn't an issue) however, I have owned dogs in the past so I am very experienced when it comes to being around animals. As well as this, other experiences catering to large quantities of animals include volunteering at a cat rescue a few times a year. If I were chosen as your house sitter, you would find your home cleaner than the way you found it and your pets looked after and loved in your absence.

Hi I am a 61 year old semi retired draftsman doing occasional contract work in New Zealand. I am a minimalistic, tidy, highly organised, responsible and trustworthy person with high standards in whatever I undertake. I love animals and travel so house sitting is a perfect way to combine these. I have been house sitting in Australia recently but covid has bought an end to this. I have completed three house sits in Australia and a two recent ones in Christchurch. Two have been with cats, two with dogs and one with a dog, cat and chickens. They have all resulted in excellent reviews. I currently live in Christchurch but am free to travel for house sitting in New Zealand. I make myself unavailable for any contract work while on a house sit so I can provide full-time attention to your pets and house. You can trust that your pets will have a caring and fun time while you are away. Regards Brian

I am a single Mature Woman with with adult children who are happily living their own lives in Hamilton and Auckland. I worked for many years in the Hair and Beauty industry as a Hairdresser and Beauty therapist. I have owned business and employed staff in the past. I now work remotely for a septic tank cleaning company doing telemarketing and database management. During the Covid lockdown I revived my crafting stills creating some interesting upcycling projects. I had been asked by friends to housesit and care for their pets. It seemed a natural progression to I chose to housesit in anticipation of travelling and I joined an international housesitting site, meeting some fabulous people whilst in the UK in 2018. Many of these people I am still in contact with. On my return to New Zealand my desire to travel remained so I continued to move around seeing more of our beautiful Aotearoa. Among the animals I have cared for cats both indoor and outdoor, dogs large and small young and old, chickens ducks and fish and also some livestock. Returning to housesits many times means I have developed some great friendships with both the animals and their owners, and also in some cases neighbors and friends in communities. I look forward to meeting you your animals and experiencing the area that you call home.

Hi there, My name is Andrew and I turned 62 last August. I am a self-employed writer and composer. As I travel frequently, I do not have pets of my own - so I absolutely adore the time get to spend looking after other people's pet's. I love all animals, but am especially fond of dogs and cats. Horses, fish, hamsters, rats, hens, goats, sheep and pigs are also my friends. I am not too fond of spiders and any creepy crawly type creatures, although I did look after a worm farm once. When not on my computer writing, I like to go on long walks. I swim, meditate, I love cooking and gardening. As my computer is my mobile office, your pets will have company all day long. I am completely house trained and am an expert in the art of being a guest. I will treat both your home and your beautiful pets with the respect and love they deserve. I would love to housesit your home and look after your treasured pets. I know that upon your return you will be very happy to have chosen me, and I'm sure you will be looking for my telephone number when you are thinking about your next holiday. I look forward to hearing from you.

I am a budding writer, travelling and returning home from time to time, as I gathering stories, house and pet sitting to continue writing. My preference is for house sits that are of longer duration, but will consider other opportunities as well. As a previous home and pet owner, I know how important it is to have a home looked lived in and pets well cared for. My green thumb is not too bad either. I am happy to say "Hi" to your neighbours if you are friendly with them so they are happy with a new person in their neighbourhood as well. I have experience with cats and dogs, chickens the odd fish and one snail... I am very happy to have a pet curled up on my lap - if they want to! I will be writing from home, so there most of the day to keep pets company and well loved. I am an easy going, friendly person who is clean and tidy and appreciates a clean and tidy home to sit. I am security conscious and happy to water your plants as well. I look forward to meeting with you via Skype or WhatsApp Video Calling to chat further. Warmest, Tracey

Hi everyone I'm Geri, I'm a good human being, trustworthy, kind and honest. Integrity is important to me. I love animals and have lots of experience looking after cats, dogs, birds and fish. I would take care of your pets as if they were my own and give them lots of love and attention. I like to refer to myself as your personal pet 'Restaurant Manager and Caregiver'. I'm happy to look after your garden, mow the lawn and water the plants to if need be. If you don't have pets that's ok too. You can expect me to look after your home with respect and you can be assured you will find it clean and tidy upon your return. I am a mature, sensible person who takes my responsibilities seriously. I like to walk everyday, weather permitting, so if you have dog I can take them with me for exercise. I think dogs are very good security officers! I have a small online business so I need wifi and Telecom phone coverage. I'm flexible on location and enjoy travelling around NZ. So far I have done several house sits for friends, the Housesitting Company and I'm also registered with another company. I would be thrilled to bits if you considered me as your house sitter and look forward to hearing from you should you feel I would be a good fit for you. I have a few references which I can email you apart from the references on this site. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Yours faithfully, Geri

I am a young at heart, mature and responsible travel loving adventurer. I love animals and have had a variety of pets including dogs, cats, fish and birds including chickens, so I understand how hard it can be when you have to leave them with strangers. I used to regularly look after my landlady's pets including a Shitzu, 3 cats, a parrot, a cockatiel and a canary, and I used to run my own cleaning business, so you will come back to a house at least as clean as I found it. My background is in nursing so I am used to administering medication, including insulin, to people and would be willing to learn to administer it to pets if required. In my current business as a freelance Proofreader and Editor all I need is a WiFi connection and I can work from anywhere, which means that your pets will be seeing a lot of me, so more cuddles and exercise for everyone, and more security for your home and for your peace of mind. Previously I worked for nursing and care agencies which involved working in residential homes caring for people, frequently in new environments, so I am used to being able to quickly assess my surroundings and situations and deal with the unexpected when necessary. Every job I have had has required a police check due to the nature of my profession so rest assured that I am responsible and trustworthy. I retired last year so I have plenty of spare time on my hands and am available at fairly short notice. I look forward to meeting you and caring for your home and pets. Regards Jan

We're ready and willing to assist you! Coming from a farming background, we're experienced in animal welfare and are very familiar with the love of the land! You can entrust your home, your animals/pets and prize possessions in capable hands - we pride ourselves in our honesty, our integrity, our reliability, and our caring nature. We are retired farmers and extra handy with any minor repairs which can be necessary from time to time. We live on a lifestyle block in sunny Marlborough and are not afraid of additional garden maintenance if required. Lyn, when and if available, is periodically approached to assist at a local Medical Centre on a casual part-time basis. We run small flocks of fattening sheep on our 5 acres which also offers a great assortment of fruits, berries and plentiful vegies … we delight in sharing any excess with friends, neighbours, and locals in the village. Over the past years we’ve owned and loved many pets – Golden Retriever, Golden Cavalier Spaniel, German Shepherds, and our last pet .. wee Kitty – a gorgeous Ginger who followed Allan everywhere and sat at his heels just like a cute wee puppy. Kitty has now passed on. We have now made the decision to travel more frequently and look forward to the opportunity of caring and sharing for other folks’ pets and/or animals, who can remain happy and settled in their own environment. With over 20 years of voluntary work in Lions and other worthy organizations, we would now like to focus our energy in meeting others and being of assistance to those wishing to take a break from their home/farm. We enjoy travelling in our caravan and meeting with other interesting folks. We offer a sincere passion and expertise in caring for your pets, your livestock and your prize possession ... your property!
