Waikato is the largest city in the stunning Waikato region. It is the home to the magnificent Waikato Gardens, located alongside the Waikato River. The gardens offer much for everyone, as they have different styles of gardens and are beautiful all year round. The river too is a popular option for tourists, visitors and locals. Walking alongside the river is a peaceful and relaxing activity, and there are many cafes nearby should you wish to have a coffee, snack or lunch. Not too far away from Waikato is the town of Matamata, from where tours of the Hobbiton film set leave.
