Dunedin has Victorian and Edwardian architecture, Scottish roots, beaches and is home to the vibrant University of Otago. The celebrated Dunedin Railway Station is visited by thousands of tourists every year, with many taking a journey into the wider Otago region with Dunedin Railways. If you want to hang out at the beach for a while, then head to St Kilda and St Clair beaches, popular with surfers and also with families. Heading out of town, you can drive along the Otago Peninsula, which has marine wildlife, walkways and New Zealand’s only castle, Larnach Castle. Dunedin has some awesome places to walk (which is great if you’ve got dogs), cycle and run. This wonderful city also has its own brewery − the famous Speight’s brewery which you can visit and have a tour of. What's more, if you're a house sitter you can live here rent-free!

Hi I have lived in Hamilton, New Zealand all my life and I am married to Nick for 33 years and we have grown up children, a daughter and two sons and I thought it would be fun to housesit as a way to see NZ. Our daughter is married and living in Christchurch and we have one grandchild. I enjoy walking and going to daily gym classes and my husband enjoys long bike rides. We are very active. I managed a house we own as an Airbnb for over two years managing bookings per night so I know what is involved in caring for a home. I have dealt with many different nationalities and many situations that arise from having a home on Airbnb. I ensured our Airbnb house was clean and well presented and that the garden was appealing and well managed. I have always had pets those being cats, dogs, chickens, canaries, goldfish - although we do not presently have a pet as sadly our beautiful 14 year old dog Bosco passed away this year My husband is experienced in managing livestock as he was brought up on a farm. I know how to care for animals giving them time, exercise, fresh water and good food. I am also aware of the signs of when a pet is feeling unwell and when to take to the vet. Hi, I am an empty nester, and would love an opportunity to house sit and look after pets. I have raised three children and over the years I have had and have cared for numerous pets. Growing up, my family had a Samoyed dog and two cats. My father was also the local dog walker and I often walked the dogs as well. When I was a stay at home mum,I developed a reputation for being a foster mother for many animals. I have adopted bunnies, guinea pigs and 8 hens from friends who could no longer care for their animals. On top of this, I transformed our 1/4 acre section into a stunning garden and started a tutoring business. When friends went away,I would care for their animals either at their homes or at my home. Once I looked after a rabbit that needed daily injections for eight weeks . Currently, I am a house owner and I have a rental property in Auckland.I also teach full-time at a girls school and am responsible for the learning support department. With the goal of one day retiring outside of Auckland I would love an opportunity to look after someone else’s home and animals and explore other parts of the country. I am in my happy place with animals and nature and I am very fit, energetic and reliable. I enjoy road cycling, walking, yoga and swimming. My day typically starts at 5.30 am with a walk before work and finishes with another walk and sometimes yoga. At weekends, I cycle regularly 50 -70 kms for leisure. My other interests are vegetable gardening, reading and cooking. Hello, we are Julie and Colin Brown. We retired to Manapouri. Fiordland 18 months ago. Prior to that we lived in Invercargill, when looking at retirement we decided to upgrade our family crib (bach) and move to live near our much loved Lake Manapouri. We have some spare time on our hands and decided that house sitting would be a way to get out and see more of New Zealand, to meet new people, see new places and make the most of our retirement. We had to say goodbye to our much loved 18 year old cat Connor a few months before we moved to Manapouri, so that was very sad. We have inherited quite a cats over the years, usually arriving at our home via the children and then we were left in charge. Colin has a bit of an affinity with birds, me not so much, although according to my mother our farm hens always loved me and followed me around.. We enjoy the company of dogs (nothing like a nice chat to a dog) and we both enjoy walking. We no longer have our own pet, but by looking after yours we still get to have that animal contact. Our animals of choice would be cats or dogs. We both enjoy being outdoors and Colin has a great vegetable garden and tunnel house. My garden these days is much smaller than it used to be but I still love getting out and poking around in it. We also both make use of the biking and walking trails in our area. and hope this summer we will get to make more use of the lake and get out to do some fishing. Colin is a keen whitebaiter, so definitely no house sitting for us in September or October (unless you have a stand nearby) that he can use. We would look after your home and animals as if they and it were our own. Neither of us have ever smoked, we do both socially drink wine or beer but otherwise feel we have no vices. We are clean, tidy, respectful and responsible. We would hope that you could feel secure to comfortably leave us to care for your animals and home.

Shortly my lifestyle block and 15 coloured sheep and their new lambs will be sold. Caring for others (humans and animals) is what I do best.. Currently I am caring for my 86 yr old family friend to enable him to remain living in his own home. Hi! Exciting times for me. I have recently retired from a busy career, and have just moved from Auckland. Contacts from friends has seen me recently complete two housesits of 2 weeks, and 3 weeks duration in Hawkes Bay. One with a dog, 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs, 3 chooks, a rabbit and some fish; the other with a dog and a cat. Over the years I have been a house sitter, a home owner, and a renter. I am used to moving around as my career has seen me change location a number of times, as well as regular travel and overnight stays. I’m pet free at the moment. My job necessitated regular travel, meaning I couldn’t give the required care and attention to a pet. As a child we had a very much loved family cat. When I had my children we had 2 cats from kittens and they completed our household with their crazy antics. My experience with dogs has been with a farm dog early in marriage, and later with an adult golden Labrador who was great with the kids and an easy care dog. There has since been a gap. My brother in the Bay has a staffie, and I will be housesitting and caring for him for 4 days in April. Approximately 20 years ago I housesat over a year, mainly in Gisborne. One housesit was for 3 months overseeing a home that was on the market, keeping it viewing ready. I also for 4 years looked after a large home each Christmas which one year included feeding aviary pigeons. I’ve also in the Bay looked after a mother cat and kittens for 2 weeks. I will treat your home carefully. Love to look after cats and open to well behaved dogs. I can also care for chooks as often feed and collect eggs on my sons farm. My hobbies include casual walking and exploring new places. I’ve been a keen gardener in the past so am happy to water gardens and look after pots. We are both animal lovers, but unfortunately due to our current living situation we are unable to have our own pet. Being able to housesit and look after animals would be like a holiday for us! We are both very active people who love the outdoors - being outside is our idea of fun, and being able to have a pet to take with us would make it even better. We're both very loving towards animals and should we need to stay in with the animal, we'd have no issues with that either. We're not party people, and we're more than happy spending our evenings relaxing at home, especially if we have fluffy company! We have both grown up with pets in our family homes and so we are aware of the time and commitment to look after pets, and we believe that housesitting could hopefully provide the perfect bridging gap before we get our own. We recently rescued a kitten that we found at the side of the road whilst out on run, we then fostered her for a few weeks until we could find her forever home. We're also on our local dog-walking group and have taken dogs for walks on a regular basis. We're very house proud people, so a homeowner can expect the house to be looked after and respected. Warm greetings, my name is Kirsty and I am wife to Richard and Mum to two lovely daughters who are 9 and 5. We are ex Aucklanders who moved to Wanganui in 2019. I am a full time Mum (with a background in Event Management), my husband owns his own building company. We are a Christian family who love music, theatre, nature/outdoors, singing, reading, animals and travelling. Our reasons for wanting to house sit are two fold. 1) For opportunities to stay in Auckland for longer term visits to see our family who we really miss and 2) We absolutely love exploring our beautiful country, but as living costs increase it's becoming harder and harder to have holidays away. We usually stay in air bnbs, but house sitting would help us out immensely. We are home owners in Wanganui and we have also extensively used air bnbs to take our girls on mini breaks away. All our reviews from staying in different homes have been A+. We also personally keep a very tidy, organised, clean home in Wanganui. Although we don't own a lot of pets (currently two cats), we love animals! We are very caring by nature and very frequently visit friends farms in Wanganui who have a wide range of pets/farm animals which our girls love to experience. Sometimes myself and the girls would house sit, other times my husband would also join us (depending when the visiting falls in the calendar as my husband is a full time builder so can't always join us on school holidays). Homeowners can expect honest, reliable, communicative, kind sitters from the Singleton family. Our girls are also very respectful and tidy and absolutely love nothing more than 'playing house' when we go on holiday. I believe this would be replicated if we were to house sit. I am a 77 year old ex-South African. Retired but still doing some consulting, remotely. Full driver's licence. I enjoy house-sitting - helping others, particularly with pets and garden so that they feel better about being away from home. I have been house-sitting, almost continuously since January 2023. So far, no problems with any of the pets! Walking dogs and throwing ball for them - especially the large ones. Cats usually end up on the bed (at my feet) I really don't mind. I see this as assisting owners while they are away so they do not have some of the problems (and costs) of boarding for their pets. Cats, dogs (including walks), birds, chooks, fish - all OK. Prepared to handle others as well as long as it is not too difficult. I am honest, trustworthy and loyal but the real expectation is that I will deal confidently and lovingly for your pets (and garden, if required). As far as possible, all actions will be based on the Terms and Conditions of the agreement, with the full understanding that where decisions need to be made in a hurry, these can only be based on expectations of a reasonable person under the circumstances. I only need a comfortable bed and the essential cooking facilities. Preferably uncapped internet - not that I watch movies but sometimes it is easier to use TV streaming if 'walkies' coincides with a program that I might like to watch. We are a couple in our late 20s and early 30s living in Wellington. We love housesitting because it combines two of the things we both really love; travelling and pets. Due to our current migratory situation we do not have pets and house sitting is a way we can enjoy the company of animals and explore new suburbs. We have both had dogs and cats in the past. Nachi has also volunteered with the SPCA where she looked after chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs amongst others. She also attended a farm school and has experience caring for farm animals. We believe that animals are part of the family and will go above and beyond to ensure they are well looked after and don't miss their human family too much while you are away. We have been housesitting since June 2021 and have become the biggest fans of it. We love being able to meet and spend time with many different fur-friends. Our days just wouldn't be fulfilled without some fur-company. We simply are animal people who love the opportunity to care for them while their family is away. Life is one big adventure! I like to be kept busy; I love to travel, discovering out of the way places, meeting new people & embracing life. But my family pets have always been a top priority. House sitting offers some exciting opportunities, but more specifically it will provide me with the pleasures of 'adopting' your family pets, if only for a short time. (And, I certainly miss not having my own pet to care for). There has always been a cat or dog (or both) in the house and then there have been the children's tropical fish, German rat, guinea pigs, rabbits, and birds! We've even had a couple of cats 'adopt' us! I also volunteered for 18 months at a bird rescue centre a few years ago which was a very rewarding experience. From a young age until her early 20s, I also used to spend a lot of time at my aunt & uncles farm where they had a dairy herd, goats and a chicken run. Animals have always featured in my life. I have been fortunate to have had some wonderful House & pet sitting opportunities over the past 3 years (with a global house sitting company) looking after dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens and birds - most of these sits were while I was based in the UK. I'm now cutting back on my time away from NZ and, after hearing very positive comments about The Housesitting Company, have decided to join so that I can focus more on NZ sits. I'd be delighted to look after and love your family pets and I will take excellent care of your home. We are the lucky ones. We get to travel, explore new places, meet new people and look after your pets. My husband Steve and I have 4 grown up daughters, and 3 delightful grandchildren. We have worked hard in our lives, and our time to explore, travel and see our beautiful country is now. We have both been brought up on Dairy and Sheep/Beef farms. We have a small lifestyle block (12 acres) near Taupo where one of our adult children lives. We are very experienced with animals and currently have on our farm, horses, cows, a dog, chickens and a couple of cats. We have previously had beef steers and sheep, including lambing. We have a deep love of animals and both Steve and I are active relaxers, which means your dogs will get loads of walking, activities and cuddles while you are away. Hello my name is Dave! I am a very healthy and fit retired builder/joiner. For 30 years I ran my own building and joinery company. I have been living in Australia and have recently returned as the heat was too much for me! My lovely wife passed away a few years ago after 47 years of marriage. With more free time at our disposal house sitting becomes an attractive way to be useful to others as well as offering new experiences for us. We have travelled internationally for both business and family overseas, as well as extensively throughout New Zealand, and having lived long spells in Wellington, Auckland and now retired to Bay of Plenty. With the family overseas, often our time away has been for up to 3 months, and on those occasions we have had friends and others staying at our home. We know what it is like to make your home available to others who you are familiar with and some who you are not but still have that small apprehension about whether it will be ok. We know how you are feeling making this commitment. We have been long term dog and cat owners, and currently regularly play house parents to a friend's dog. Walking and appropriate exercise is not a problem. Other friends also call on us to house sit and mind their precious moggy, often for longer periods. With golf being a sport that we both enjoy, the opportunity to play courses in your region is an added appeal for house sitting. but also assures you that we are fit and able to walk as far as your pets need. I have worked all my life in various roles; Ive had experience in Office Administration and Community Support work, currently studying for Master of Fine Arts and the Dunedin Art School. So, I am a house sitter for people who want the assurance that their pets and their property will be cared for with love and diligence. I also have a wide range of experience in the care and handling of many different breeds of dog from a little Chihuahua up to a huge Great Dane and many other breeds in between, and I cannot forget those beloved friends of the mixed breed variety. Don't let me forget either, our feline friends. Having lived with cats and dogs in my lifetime, but none currently, I occasionally care for my stepdaughter's cat as she is out of town regularly. I'm also well-versed in the care of most domestic pets. I do regularly house sit for my stepdaughter as mentioned previously for friends and acquaintances. There have been many other placements, usually by referral. Hi I'm Kim. I'm an environmental scientist working in sustainability for an energy company, I work fully remotely so I'm mostly home Mon - Fri. My work sometimes includes travel to locations such as Auckland, Wellington, central Nth Island and the Otago. When I do that I like to house sit as I prefer to live like a local rather than stay in hotels, it also gives me the added bonus of fur babies which I love. My husband and I live in Christchurch with our Burmese fur baby Cookie who truly rules our life in a good way. In some locations when I'm travelling for work I go into the office occasionally, ie in Auckland. We are active outdoors people, love trail running, tramping, surfing and biking. We are often trusted to house sit for friends and neighbors when they are away, and we're are experienced and happy to look after small and large animals. I have also had quite a few dogs in my life over the years, fox terriers and border collies when growing up and later in life larger dogs. At the moment we just have our cat Cookie but I doggie sit for friends quite often. As I work remotely I'm home most of the day, I like to get up early leaving time in the afternoons to get outside for exercise or exploring. If you have animals that require a bit of exercise that suits me perfectly as I like to get out for a walk / run. Hello, Vanessa and Marcel here. We have been house-sitting for the Housesitting Company since 2018 and have done about 20 house-sits right around the country. Vanessa grew up in Mount Maunganui and Tauranga but has more recently lived in Otago for the last 20 years. Marcel has lived in Otago most of his life. We now live in Invercargill where Vanessa is studying to be a Nurse, and Marcel drives a School Bus. We both love dogs and cats and have had our own pets in the past. Marcel has until recently had Labradors and a couple of cats. Vanessa has recently had both cats and dogs, Chocolate and Vanilla the cats, and Chico was a very much loved Tibetan Spaniel. We have mainly looked after cats and dogs, but also horses, rabbits, fish, and one Axolotl. Nestled near the famed Gibb River Road, I own a 10-acre property teeming with bushland and diverse wildlife. House-sitting is something I do often in New Zealand, with stays in various Wellington suburbs like Island Bay, Evans Bay, Eastbourne, and Wainuiomata. My reputation as an Airbnb guest is positive, with excellent reviews from homeowners in both New Zealand and Australia. As I travel frequently, I am unable to have any pets of my own. However, I regularly care for two cats in Wellington, a British Blue, and my 104-year-old grandmother's cat, Jetty. In the Kimberley, I've looked after two Australian cattle dogs named Bonnie and Clyde when their owner needed to travel to Perth for medical treatments. Growing up, our family had a mischievous and much-loved Golden Retriever called Ben. Later, I had Mingus, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Rottweiler cross. Although no longer practicing, it may be of some comfort to know that I studied Animal Nursing part-time over two years (1996 - 1997), during which time I worked in two veterinary clinics before embarking on overseas travels. This was some time ago but it's worth a mention as it demonstrates an interest in animal welfare.

The main reason being that we are animal lovers and Lesley especially is feeling pet deprived at the moment since having to put down our most adored cat Ginger 18 months ago. Kia Ora! We’re Emma and Elias, twins on tour through New Zealand with a working holiday visa, eager to explore the country and its people. Whilst looking for an accommodation we’ve stumbled upon house/pet sitting, which seemed perfect to us both. Both of us adore pets and animals in general and even though we only have fish at home;), both of us have plenty of experience, especially with dogs. I, Emma, did a school exchange in 2020 and lived in a family with 3 dogs (a husky and 2 adopted strays). I took care of them every day of the year, taking all three of them on long walks through the beautiful nature of Andalusia and still, almost three years later, I miss them dearly. I also made a habit out of going to the local Dog-Rescue-Center, taking little pups without a home on walks along the beach. I, Elias, have a close friend with 3 young australian shepherds. Back in Germany I joined them for a walk every day over the last year and cared for them whenever the family was away. I’ve helped educating them since the age of 12 weeks and went through all stages of adolescence with the little rascals. All three of them have a special place in my heart and they will be my first stop when this travel experience comes to an end. Even though both of us have more experience taking care of dogs, we have helped friends and family with cats whenever we had the chance to. If you choose us as sitters you can expect two young, responsible adults to take care of both your home and your animal/s with lots of love and passion. Both non smokers, enjoy clean living with clean criminal international and local records. We met in Malaysia while working as volunteers with cats and dogs for SPCA in early 2015. After that we did a period of volunteers with tigers in Thailand. Highlight of our lives. Great experience to be so close and intimate with a wild animals. Few scars but lived to tell all the tales. After we worked with them, cats and dogs are so easy. Next, hoping to spend some time with elephants. We have done home sitting in NZ as well as offshore in Europe and China as well as a 4 week stay in Malaysia. Although we like to travel, live clean and appreciate clean houses so your home will be looked after. Although not fantastic green fingers, we will happily mow your grass and pull a few weeds as required. As we both still work part time, appreciate wi-fi so we can still receive emails etc. Sky is not important cause we rather be outside enjoying open air as against watching TV. Also since 2017, a volunteer firefighter originally with Otorohanga but would consider helping any local volunteer brigade. Rem has in the past also looked after NZ Police dogs while their handler has gone on holiday so the average dog should be relatively easy. Happy to walk the dogs and where possible, take them to the beach if possible. Hopefully have secure parking for the BMW as well? Since Feb 2017 we have lived in Otorohanga and have looked after various local and surrounding properties. A 550 acre grazing farm and a very upmarket lifestyle house. Although it’s been fun here, we are ready for another area from now on. Long term housesits preferred but will consider short options as well. Yuling now lives in Wellington full time while Rem commutes.

When I was married and we bought our first house, having pets was a top priority. After 3 years we had 3 cats (Tabby, Tina and Kate) and 2 Beagles (Tony and Lucy). I have mainly worked in Computer and Project environments but after studying one year part time for an Animal Care certificate I worked 5 days a week in my normal job and 1 day at a well established and reputable Vet clinic in Remuera. By this stage I was divorced and the family consisted of the beagles, Tabby and me. I have also been a volunteer kennel assistant at SPCA. I am comfortable giving medication to pets and have looked after cats, dogs, birds, fish and rats. All of my animals have lived a happy and long life. Tony suffered from cancer later in his life but with care and chemo from VSG and at home he got a new lease of life and was with me for another 2 years of quality time. I no longer have pets of my own so I would really love the opportunity to care for yours, either outside of Auckland when I ready for a break or in Auckland for a 'staycation' I am mature, responsible, respectful and resourceful. When it comes to pups we have cared for every shape and size from the big boys and girls - Suzie (9 year old Greyhound-Huntaway Cross), Ngaio (12 year old Labrador), Fergie (12 year old German Shepard) and Lila and Otis (15 year old Boxers) - to smaller pups like Lochie (2 year old Schnauzer-Welsh Terrier), Teddy (16 year old Shih Tzu) and big energy, little puppy Moss (under 1 Australian Terrier) who we cared for a lot throughout 2023. We don't have much experience beyond cats, dogs and chickens (have owned and looked after these too) but are happy to get to know your llamas or other exciting furry family members. I, Caroline Mundy, is a recently retired Civil/Structural engineer. I was born and raised in Malaysia, but went to Britain for my tertiary studies. I graduated from Cardiff University with an honours degree in Civil and Structural Engineering and later gained a Masters degree in the same subject at Sheffield University. I am married to Chris Mundy, an editor at NZQA, Wellington. Chris and I grew up with pets in our families, and from this we gained a life-long love of animals. Over the years, we have had many different animals as pets, including a sheep which eventually died of old age!, a golden retriever, a duckling, rabbits, a weta and doves, all of which were much loved by us and our two children. We also adopted the school's cockatoo and axolotl during school holidays. We took our friend's cat to be with our family whilst they worked overseas. Sadly, our adorable all white cat named Pearl has passed away and we no longer have any pets. So, it would be really lovely to be able to look after someone else's pets. As we no longer have children living with us, we have more freedom to explore and travel to new places, which we both love doing. It also enables us to take a break from our rather busy lives by housesitting every now and then. Having pets with our accommodation is an added bonus to us. Their 'babies' were well loved & looked after. Mick is a keen diver and loves to get out in the garden, Tracey used to be a professional cleaner so keeping a home sparkling clean is my thing - I also love mowing lawns. We both love to walk and do lengthier hikes & can be found in the mornings trying to beat each other at Wordle & Quordle. We are both people who take pride and care not only in our home (including the grounds) but any home we visit or stay in. We absolutely both respect your home is your castle, that your pets are your joy and we want you to go away knowing we will love your animals and care for them & your house (and grounds if required) so you can just relax. Our home base is on a small island in western Canada. We are homeowners and fully understand the housesitting social contract and responsibilities. We currently have trustworthy housesitters in our home while we are away. Peter and I, make a great housesitting team. I take the lead with the animal and home care, Peter supports me by playing with the pets and cuddle time. He also leads our dog walking explorations into nature. As our three children grew, our home was full of much loved animals. We had two family cats and two family dogs. Oliver, the cat was much loved in the neighbourhood. During the day he would sit by the gate, greet people, and beg for a pat. During the evening, when he was not snuggled up next to the dog, or swatting her tail, he would find a lap and stay there purring. He stayed in our family for 20 years. Lassie, a border collie/lab/husky cross is perhaps the most acclaimed of all our family pets. Our children still talk of her with great love. We adopted her when she was two years old. She 'heeled' with the click of a finger and kept guard over our children when they were young. She was the most amazing and lovable dog - her photo has an honoured place in our home. In the past, we have cared for cats, dogs, sheep, pigs, bees, chickens, ducks, fischers parrot, rabbits, and hamsters. The key in caring for pets is to have established expectations: food and exercise routines/cuddle times and ensure that animals have ample fresh water everyday. We love all animals and plants and can turn my hand to most tasks involved in caring for them. Also, I might add that I enjoy exploring regenerative agriculture concepts. I am a founding director of School Orchards Africa Society, in Tanzania. Having built our home and hobby farm, Peter is familiar with most house systems, on and off grid. He is a good guitar player. Since returning to NZ our speciality has certainly been rural lifestyle blocks as we love the peace and quiet of the countryside and exploring nature. We're extremely well organised, tidy, honest, flexible and caring. You can expect to return to your home as clean as you left it, if not cleaner, and with very happy pets. We've never pulled out of a sit as we're extremely reliable and the last thing we'd want is for you to have an issue because of us before you go on holiday. Experienced in garden and lawn care, spa and pool maintenance, rain and bore water tank system monitoring, ant prevention and setting pest control traps. As previous homeowners, we have enough common sense to know when to tackle any maintenance issues which may arise and when to request advice. We're also happy to do turnover service if you operate an active Air BnB on your property. We'll require a reliable unlimited internet connection (as we work remotely) and off street parking for our car. As non-smokers we're not interested in any sits where you normally smoke/vape indoors.

I, Adam, grew up on a lifestyle farm on the countryside, where I had the chance of playing with and taking care of many types of animals mainly cats, dogs, chickens, ducks and pigs. We also often went around to check out the neighbors' sheep, cows and horses. I believe that my sensible personality makes me a good match to many kinds of animals. Also my family has long line of gardeners, and I also inherited a bit of the green thumb. My profession is IT engineer working at FoodStuffs 9-5 as a Data Insights Manager. Hello! My name is Cats (Catherine) and I am an Australian citizen living in Dunedin to be closer to my daughter is currently about to do her last year of University at Otago. I am currently enjoying my sixth house sit since early December 2023 and I am absolutely loving caring for everyone's fur babies and looking after their homes and gardens. I am a teacher aide working with amazing children at a special school. I am also a children's book author and illustrator and I want to spend as much time as I can working on my latest book. I absolutely adore animals and plants. I have always had pets, usually rescued and/or unwanted ones and I have been an animal activist for many years. As well as cats and dogs, I rescued 6 ex battery hens which came to me in a very poor state of health with hardly any feathers. Within a few months, their feathers grew back and they were able to enjoy the freedom of roaming around in the garden, taking "dust baths" and I soon discovered that each one had such a strong personality! One of my hens, Milo, would walk into the house and sit in front of the fridge and wait for someone to open the fridge door as she knew we usually had grapes in there which were her favourite. Our two cats were quite frightened of the chickens, which is quite funny really, and would only observe them from a distance. After having been a "cat-mum" for many years I then also became a "dog-mum" when I rescued my first greyhound. Greyhounds are such gentle giants and are really couch potatoes who actually don't require a great deal of exercise. Sleeping is probably their favourite thing to do! I have done quite a lot of dog/cat sitting this past year, including looking after a diabetic poodle who required daily injections of insulin. I have also recently looked after an Italian greyhound and his lovely home. His parents have already booked me in for when they go again next month and I realised then that it is quite hard to find a good house/pet sitter. I was born and raised in Switzerland which makes me a bit of a neat freak! I like the house to be clean and tidy. I am a non-smoker, non-drinker and prefer a calm environment. House sitting for you would mean I will be able to concentrate on my writing and illustrating and it also means that I will be home most of the time looking after your fur babies and your plants!

Massive dog rescuer as well - just ask my friends, they groan at every new story of me finding a stray dog and getting it home safely. I love dogs and cats equally, and when I am asked which I prefer I say both. I have my own dog, the second in my life, and have owned cats until 10 years ago. I adopted Kato (bichon poodle x) when he was 3 and he had fear based issues after what appears to be a difficult first few years. It took a couple of years to make him aware he was safe and just on the planet to have a good time. Now he is a happy little guy who loves to walk, chase balls and hang out with his favourite humans, my 90 year old mother being one of them - having bitten her the first time they met over 5 years ago, they now have a very special bond. They even share the same birthday. I lived in Auckland for 20 years and love the Coromandel and Northland. I spent a lot of time in the Coromandel over summers, in a tent, holiday houses, staying at friends and travelling in motorhomes. Living in Christchurch I don't get much of any opportunity to get back there and I miss the beautiful weather and lush tropical geography. I love to walk, bike, explore, read, cook, love art house movies and documentaries, galleries, being near or in water and am very happy with my own company.

We love exploring different areas. We are experienced housesitters and will look after your home and pets as if they were our own with care and respect. We can cope with the unexpected. Over the years we have had dogs of our own and looked after other peoples’ labradors, retrievers, Jack Russells, collies, Alsatian, mixed breeds and rescue dogs. I loved it when our Jack Russell had pups. We have always had cats too. Though mainly our daughter was the cats’ best friend. Hamsters, Guinea pigs, rabbits, fish have all been part of the household at various times and once a rosella for a few weeks. For 30 years I have had one or two ponies or horses until my Connemara died in 2018. Sometimes I still ride but mainly I miss caring for horses. As we have had land in the past we’ve had various livestock, horses, cattle, sheep and are comfortable handling them. We have looked after other peoples’ hens and still say we will get some when we don’t go away so much. In the meantime we are often visited by our neighbours’ two hens making a getaway. My husband is a fixer, landscaper and creative worker with wood and natural materials. He is a keen caretaker of New Zealand’s natural environment. He is an avid reader and perceptive, humorous writer. I am still working as a psychologist mainly by Zoom one day a week. I enjoy the flexibility of being nearly retired and having time to play the guitar and dabble in the garden and with various art projects. We met in London 6 years ago, and are very much enjoying living in beautiful Aotearoa. We are enjoying house sitting as we love the opportunity to see different parts of the country, love animals, and have flexibility given we largely work from home. We are both working professionals - Aimee is a Social Worker having spent the last 13 years working in the criminal justice system, and Tetteh is a Forensic Psychologist. Tetteh also has a education background and has previously worked as a University Lecturer in Forensic Psychology, however is also a qualified Psychologist. He is currently contracting to organisations doing training and facilitation, one on one therapy, and group therapy for those with substance use issues. Aimee also works from home and contracts to Ministry of Justice completing court reports for criminal courts, as well as doing training and facilitation and restorative practice with tertiary institutions and organisations. We both largely work from home, however do have face to face meetings or workshops in town a few times per week. We both come from homes where we have adored our pets. Aimee grew up with cats, and has a family cat named Sunny who is the family princess and adored by everyone. Tetteh is a HUGE animal lover, and takes up every opportunity to spend time with family and friends who have animals (particularly dogs!). We are both very responsible people who do not smoke, are outgoing and trustworthy, and happy to ensure all steps are taken to ensure your animals and property are adequately cared for. In my most recent housesits in New Zealand, I used my experience of growing up with animals and my pet-loving and caring nature to support owners to feel at ease whilst they were away on their holiday. I am a strong relationship builder and communicator and am able to quickly build rapport with you and your pets. I value building an encouraging, positive and friendly environment with everyone I meet. An example of this is when I recently housesat in Wellington and looked after several chickens. As I do not eat eggs, I quickly made friends with some neighbours by sharing them so they did not go to waste. Alfie the dog and I were soon invited along for evening walks and morning coffees. With my years of staying in housesitting, houseshares and living in tiny homes, I pride myself on keeping a clean home. An example of this is organising myself with a weekly cleaning rota where I split the tasks up over the week to break down the tasks and keep on top. I am also a keen gardener, growing vegetables and flowers from seed to table and caring for a variety of cacti and houseplants. They looked after our Dunedin house, lifestyle block, cat and 13 sheep for 3 months and did an amazing job. Alex didn't spend one night away from the property, even over the Christmas holidays (Laura had to work part time in Chch, which she was very upfront about). When Alex noticed there was something wrong with our sheep, he got in touch with us and our vet neighbour straight away. Overall communication was amazing. We got cute photo updates every 2-3 days. They came down to meet in person before the house sit, and overlapped with us either end. When we returned they picked us up from the airport, had lunch ready and left us food. The house was spotless and garden looked great.
