Hastings
The Hawke’s Bay town of Hastings is perfect for using as a base to explore the wider region. It is a grape growing area, with Hawke’s Bay being famous for its wine production. There’s also the fun Splash Planet Theme Park if you’re looking for a family day out on a warm day, and there are some great walks nearby.
And what’s more, Wellington is less than a three hour drive away!

I am a young and active senior who retired at Christmas 2021, I had worked with Ontario's largest Children's Mental Health Agency for 18 years. I arrived in back NZ early 2022 after spending 19 years in Canada. My husband passed away last year. Quite the battle to get into MIQ to return home, with the lotto draw they installed !!! I am currently living with my son and daughter in law, and it would be nice to spend time away on the odd occasion. I house sat before leaving for Canada in Omokoroa and Mount Maunganui. One was an Avocado Orchard and they had 70 Parrots in aviaries on the property, such fun. I have been the proud owner of 5 rescue Old English Sheepdogs.. not all at the same time !!!! so I know about grooming. My last dog Boomer was 116lbs, (52.5kg) a big strong boy and the light of our lives. In 2020 we started to foster dogs brought up from Texas from the "high kill" pounds. Copper was our first, A Walker Coon Hound... never heard of them before and what a delight with his howl. I will leave your home as you left it though I do enjoy gardening and cleaning windows... My hobbies are reading, walking, knitting and TV..... I am a friendly person. get on with most people, I am the listener not the talker... I grew up in UK, came to NZ and then followed my son to Canada. Just went for a holiday and met my husband, tore up my ticket and stayed put....... I consider NZ home.....

Hi there! Our names are David and Tessa, 30 and 32 years old. We moved to New Zealand 3 years ago and are currently living in Palmerston North. We are still in the stage of our lives where we do not need to settle so we love going on adventures, seeing new places and experiencing new things. By housesitting we can see different parts of New Zealand and get a good feel for where we might want to settle a couple of years from now. Furthermore, housesitting gives us the joy of pets without holding us back from travelling. In the past years, we have done this by foster parenting for the SPCA, Saving Hope Foundation, and most recently for Pawshake (a pet sitting service where people pay a fee for you to housesit or have their animals stay with you. We have many more reviews on that website and are happy to provide those too. I have been working from home since 2020 and will have plenty of time to spend on keeping your house clean, loving your animals, and gardening if need be. David is also currently transitioning to online work and will be able to maintain the lawn and other things around the house should they arise. We are a quiet couple who love animals and enjoy camping, hiking, being outdoors and staying active. Upon return you can expect a clean well maintained home and garden, loved and cared for pets, and the house just as you left it. Also, we love taking photos so if you are worried that you are going to miss your furry children too much we are more than happy to send you regular updates through pictures and videos :) We have experience with short & longe house stays as well as the following animals: - Dogs - Cats - Chickens - Goats - Horses - Guinea Pigs - Bunnies - Sheep - Ducks If you require any additional information please do not hesitate to contact us. Warm regards, David and Tessa

Our careers as a professional couple have been a school p.a secretary and a rates arrears officer for the local council both retired 2017 and would be pleased to look after your house and pets while you are absent. We are an outdoor couple and love to explore walks and experiences etc in other areas. We both come from families who have always encouraged us to nurture animals. We have always had pets for our 3 children and in particular a very endearing cat for years who was a Tonkinese cross between a Burmese and Siamese. We would be very caring for your pets, and small animals with compassion. We are responsible and respectful people who would like to help families feel secure by looking after their property and pets while they are away. Charles is meticulous maintaining our own house and grounds and has expertise in trees. We both take pride in our privately owned home. You can expect our utmost consideration in your home, hygiene, compassion to your pets and your belongings.

Hello :) My name is Yin, 27 y/o; I am a Malaysian Chinese lady with a working holiday visa; I have been in New Zealand since March 2019, coming to 3 years :) I love travelling by myself, and I have been to most of the places in New Zealand during my working holiday. I am fully vaccinated. Also a tidy and clean person. I am a quiet, introverted but friendly person. I love nature and small animals. I enjoy living a peaceful life. I do respect others and would like to spread kindness. Even though I have no previous house sitting experience, I do have HELPX experience I was working on a family farm, in a retreat, as I travelled a lot, I'm comfortable with adapting to a new environment. I am visiting the outskirt of Wellington on June and would probably look for a part-time seasonal work or just travelling. Thus, I'd have lots of free time taking care of your furry family members or watering plants ;) I sincerely hope to get an amazing opportunity :)

Hi there, We are a professional couple (Deputy principal and teacher) with 2 young children (7yrs and 5yrs), who are in school and daycare during the week. We are active, love the outdoors and love animals. We are happy to look after any pets. Our youngest child is very gentle with pets, as is our eldest who is very used to animals. She likes to help us feed, wash and take care of them, and where appropriate, take them for walks. Rochelle was bought up on a farm and is comfortable with livestock and farm dogs. We have had pets before, including 2 shih tzu dogs, which we bred from for a number of years, so are used to dogs of all ages. We are also equally comfortable looking after cats. We maintain a clean and tidy household and will respect any property that we are in. We will take great care of your home and love your pets like our own. Kind Regards, Shane and Rochelle

Rennie and I met when travelling overseas in the late 60's and have lived in Auckland since 1976, always in the central Auckland. Both of us are born and bred NZ ers, Rennie is from Wellington and I Auckland, which makes for interesting sports watching on occasions. 10 years ago we sold our family home after 31 years and now live in an apartment in the same area. Even more recently we sold our share in a co owned bach which we had for 36 years, this was a deliberate move to allow us more flexibility to travel around NZ. We are so used to sharing and being respectful to others in that shared space we thought house sitting and caring for other's treasured pets would be a great way to see our country. We have been retired now for several years but previously I was a registered nurse and Rennie a journalist. We both keep fit and active and enjoy walking. Mostly I keep busy with volunteer work and Rennie a great reader and avid newsman. Prior to our apartment life, which we love, we have always had pets in our family, cats and dogs. Our very first animal was a cat called Ola, she was a dear fluffy puss cat who's favorite trick was to bring us presents of squirming mice. She looked at us as if we were mad when we returned them to the garden. From Ola we had a series of cats all named by our son, we have had Sally, George (who was discovered to be Georgina when being spayed), Loverly and Pokey. The later two arrived very close together and Loverly adored Pokey who became pregnant while booked in to be spayed. She was still a kitten herself and when her babies were born Loverly took over the nurturing role and would marshall Pokey at feeding times. We lost Loverly early when she was run over. Wonderfully Pokey lived until she was 20. When we lost Loverly we became dog owners, our first a miniature schnauzer called Pebbles who sadly died from, the vet believed, of a congenital heart condition at 5. After Pebbles we got Slick from the SPCA, he was a good boy and we all loved him for the 14 years we had him. We miss them now.

We consider ourselves active "young at heart" retirees and because we love all animals we have chosen to become house sitters. We have had the pleasure of other sitters minding our home and would consider it a privilege to take care of someone else's home and beloved pets. My old cat required a daily diabetes injection and regular blood sugar tests so I am happy to carry out this if required. I love gardening so am happy to do any required. We will care for the owner's home as we would our own. My previous husband was a farmer and so I had many years of caring for a variety of animals, eg lambs, calves, horses, pigs etc. Peter and I will be very happy to be in a country area and care for the family's animals as needed.

Kia ora My name is Denise Hetet, I have French, English and maori heritage. I am 60 years of age and have three adult boys. They give me a lot of joy and are always helping me to improve in fitness, diet and technology. Family is very important to my sense of being along with my philosophy of Buddhism, especially Thich Nat HANH the writer of Peace is every step.Last year I completed studying at Wellpark College, massage for relaxation. I have also a primary school teaching degree. My nurturing nature allows me to care for all animals, but my natural affinity is with cats. My interests are Buddhism, yoga, natural therapies , animals, gardening, and I love sailing and being by the sea. . My work life centres around markets on the weekend, jewellary, healing cream and flower remedies. Past house sitting experience, France, for a friend on his farm, feeding chickens, cat and general care of his organic vegetable garden. Two weeks in 2013. was in Great Barrier Island, another friend who runs a retreat center called Wai Ora set on Medlands beach, this involved, keeping an eye on solar power system, security, garden, compost and the cat! Two weeks 2014. Other times in Auckland, while a friend visited UK, collected mail, fed cat, clean house, water plants, this lasted five weeks. At present restoring a colonial house in Leigh area, caring for cats, little goats, chickens and a dog, since then work has stopped. My latest Housesit was in Western Springs for ten days, the ginger cat Lucy had a stroke so needed a lot of care. Lucy loved to sleep on the bed with me, I loved having her close. The other cat Diesel was more independent. My other duties were watering the garden and collecting the mail. Also over the Xmas new year period I went to houses with sole purpose of feeding, patting and caring for four different cats. Also specialise in turtle minding, feeding for my son and his girlfriend. I am an animal lover who is kind and considerate who will care for your pets and house with love. Thank you for taking the time to view my sitter profile, if you require any further details I am happy to provide them. Namaste Denise Denise Hetet.

Hey! My name is Csaba Koszo. I'm easy-going, married Hungarian man in my 40s with a sense of humor, like a diversified life. I grew up in the town, but we had own farm close to our house. I love animals, mainly mammals and I love houses too, because this is my trade: doing renovations, decking etc. as a self-employer. If something goes wrong with the house, I know what I can do. And I have another business, which works through the Internet. I have been living in Auckland for 7,5 years and I did housesitting 14 times here in NZ (13 times include animals: dogs, cat, bird, fishes). We are Christians, got married in June 2019 and my wife moved to NZ also. Hey! My name is Masha (Maria officially). I was born and grew up in Russia, but now I`m living in New Zealand with my husband. I`m a doctor (surgeon and medical sonographer) and now I am looking forward to confirming my diplomas here in NZ. I love animals, we had two cats at home, while I was growing up. Our common hobbies: many different types of sports, playing with pets, reading and travelling. We are looking forward with anticipation to meet you and your little family members. Greetings :) Csaba and Masha

I, Caroline Mundy, is a recently retired Civil/Structural engineer. I was born and raised in Malaysia, but went to Britain for my tertiary studies. I graduated from Cardiff University with an honours degree in Civil and Structural Engineering and later gained a Masters degree in the same subject at Sheffield University. I am married to, Chris Mundy, an editor at NZQA, Wellington. Chris and I grew up with pets in our families, and from this we gained a life-long love of animals. Over the years, we have had many different animals as pets, including a sheep which eventually died of old age!, a golden retriever, a duckling, rabbits, a weta and doves, all of which were much loved by us and our two children. We also adopted the school's cockatoo and axolotl during school holidays. We took our friend's cat to be with our family whilst they worked overseas. Sadly, our adorable all white cat named Pearl passed away this year in March. So, it would be really lovely to be able to look after someone else's pet. As we no longer have children living with us, we have more freedom to explore and travel to new places, which we both love doing. It also enables us to take a break from our rather busy lives by housesitting every now and then. Having pets with our accommodation is an added bonus to us. We are responsible and respectful people who want to help other families have peace of mind whilst they are away. We are friendly, trustworthy, do not smoke nor drink alcohol, are non party people and are Christians. Please look through our references and feel free to contact our referees, who will be more than happy to vouch for our character and our ability to look after pets and homes. We have joined the House Sitting Company not too long ago and have not done many house sits because we prefer weekend or short sits. This is because Chris still works full time and he would like to avoid taking leave for house sits where possible. We are both fully vaccinated. Yours sincerely Caroline and Chris Mundy References Graham Worthington Mike Fearn

Hello Sir/Madam, We are a Deaf couple in 40's with two children aged 8 and 9 years old. We use sign language to communicate with each other as both children are hearing, they are bilingual. We had our two dogs and we love living with our dogs all of our lives but our dogs are no longer with us anymore, which is very heartbreaking for us all. Recently, we moved out of Auckland to live my parents in law here in Omokoroa (near Tauranga). We are looking for a place to housesit so children can have an enjoyable experience with animals again. We have never house sit before but a friend of ours highly recommended us and we would like to try out this experience in 2022. We are house proud (we sold our house) and we will have our new house built next door to my parents in law later in October/November 2022. At the moment, we are staying at my husband's family so it would be a good opportunity and experience for us to stay at different locations until we settle in October 2022. We will do the extra mile with keeping up your house clean/tidy such as cleaning, gardening, mowing, etc. As well, of course take care of animals - we would love to take for a walk or give them a bath, cuddles, etc. Both of us work from home, children go to Omokoroa #1 school (from February 2022) and we are flexible with requirements from homeowners. We are happy to follow your instructions and suggestions. We hope to find a place so we can appreciate looking after your animals and your house. Handwaves, Victoria, Gregory, Adrian and Solvita Lessing
