One of the great visitor attractions in Masterton is Queen Elizabeth Park, which is claimed to be the best park for children in New Zealand. For a different type of park, head to Pukaha National Wildlife Centre where you’ll learn about conservation work in a forest that’s home to kokako and kaka. Back in Masterton, there is the Wairarapa Museum of Art and History, and also New Zealand’s museum of sheep and shearing, The Wool Shed. And then if you’re keen for the vibe of a bigger city, Wellington is under two hours’ drive away.
