With bitter winters and scorching summers, Otago is located in the southeast of the South Island. Its terrain encompasses the rugged Otago peninsula sheltering sandy beaches and penguins, to snow-capped mountains and glacial lakes. Framed by the dramatic Southern Alps, Queenstown is famous for adventure sports such as quad biking, snow boarding, bungee jumping and paragliding.
For something a little different visit Larnach Castle, built in 1871 which lies in a remote spot on the Otago Peninsula. Elegantly restored, it recaptures life as it was in the early 19th century with enormous pieces of antique furniture and clothes of the era beautifully displayed. Dunedin, New Zealand's oldest city has a wide range of interesting architecture, notably the Railway Station nicknamed 'Gingerbread George' and the authentic Ming/early Ching Dynasty Chinese Gardens. Chocolate lovers will be in their element at Dunedin’s Cadbury World where they can delight their senses , experience a working chocolate factory and sample some delicious Cadbury products.
